Abstract
This is a distillation of some practical information on photographic conservation and preservation. Correct procedures during film and print processing are stressed. Beyond this, improper storage techniques contribute to deterioration. Dyes used in color photographs are even more susceptible to deterioration than black and whites. Adhesives used to mount photographs must be chosen very carefully, as the wrong glue will discolor a photograph in short order. Some widely used storage techniques, such as albums with magnetic pages, present some of the worst problems. The article ends with a checklist of processing and storage instructions to help prolong the life of any print.
