This symposium organised by the icom working group on leathercraft, covered restoration of leather costume (helmet, shoes and jerkin); treatment of gilt leather wall hangings; discussions on human skin (tattooing and tanning); insecticides in furs and skins; methods for the consolidation of wet archaeological leather, and for blocking metal-catalysed degradation of leather; and contemporary manufacture in japan of goldleather, following the earlier dutch tradition.
