Abstract
This monograph, written primarily for professional conservators, first discusses the underwater environment and the mechanisms of deterioration of the inorganic and organic materials likely to be found in a shipwreck. A detailed discussion of the theory and practice of conserving the artifacts follows. In addition, information is provided for on-site storage, transport of artifacts, and finally, after conservation treatment, the requirements for exhibition of the excavated material.
