Abstract
The accelerating effect of air pollution and especially sulfurous compounds in the atmosphere in the degradation of most Austrian building stones is obvious. This is also supported by the results of corrosion measurements of selected stone samples exposed side by side to emission measuring instruments in the city of Vienna. The important mechanisms are studied by artificial weathering in a newly improved chamber which is introduced in this paper.
