Abstract
The properties of mud brick and such analysis techniques as granulometry, use of x-rays, analysis of salts, and microscopic examination are discussed. Solutions are proposed for preventing the material from deteriorating as a result of rain and earthquakes. These involve burying archaeological sites after excavation, protecting sites from the elements with canopies and roofing, foreseeing a good drainage system, and treating surfaces with ethyl silicate in order to assure their porosity.
