Materials used as fresco fixatives, adhesives and supports were re-examined. Casein, calcium caseinate, polyvinyl acetate, methacrylate, calcium caseinate mixed with polyvinyl acetate, were observed. The author recommends calcium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, Primal (AC), or Paraloid B-72 as fixatives, and polyvinyl acetate (NPC), or Elvacite 2045 as adhesives for fresco. As a support for a strappo or stacco, he recommends light, thin panels of tempered masonite or polyester and fiberglass; as an isolating layer between the new support and the fresco, he advocates asbestos (2 mm sheet) or a stucco of asbestos powder and polyvinyl acetate.
