There is a lack of documentary evidence for the organization of Assyrian supplies of bloom-iron, and the archaeological and metallurgical evidence is also meager as regards the methods of forging and distribution. This paper surveys the work which needs to be carried out -- surveying the possible sources of iron ore, discovery of smelting hearths, metallographic studies on the finished products, etc. The author suggests that the Kaska tribesmen may have had a part in the development of early Assyrian iron working. -- AATA
