Abstract
The use of absolute methyl alcohol is indicated for removing residual salt from archaeological iron finds. Special emphasis is placed on the physical benefits of methanol as compared with distilled water, and a description is given of an apparatus on a laboratory scale which permits a continuous desalination and dehydration of objects. When applying this method the methanol used will always remain completely anhydrous due to chemical reaction. After extraction the objects can be directly transferred to a bath treatment for preservation.
