This paper addresses the subject of preventing and coping with loud disasters. These are the sudden, devastating ones which in a few minutes or hours can wipe out a large part of a library collection. The causes of such disasters are usually fire, flood, weather, wind or earthquake--what insurance companies like to call acts of God.
