Abstract
The Dama de Baza is an Iberic sculpture polychromated made in limestone, that is chronologically situated in the IV century B.C.; it was discovered in July 1971, during the forth excavations campaign undertaken by Professor Presedo in the Iberian Necropolis at Cerro Cepero in Baza (Granada). The treatment for its preservation has been programmed basing ourselves in a study of materials and technique, in comparison with appreciation elements of historical and documental type, contributed to the XII National Archaeological Congress (Jaen, 1971), and will be published by Mr. Presedo. The preservation treatment has been performed in the following manner: 1st. Fix the polychromy substituting as far as possible the Gumlac by Soluble Nylon (Calaton C.A.) dissolved in pure isopropilic alcohol. 2nd. Dry the work in a small room, some 10 m3, with perfectly controlled Hr environment, and impregnating it repeatedly with abundant ethylic alcohol in order to insolubilize the Sulfates in the hidroalcoholic medium. 3rd. Glue the fragments with polyester resin (Aspa) reinforcing the links with stainless steel rods of 7mm. section. 4th. Consolidate the polychromy with Calaton C.A. and, in some hollow points with Gypsum stucco and acetic glue. All repairs effected may be directly identified upon the work itself.
