Abstract
A child's coffin dating from 1772 was recovered during archaeological excavations in Sárospatak, northeastern Hungary. It was left untreated for 25 years in poor storage conditions. The coffin, of pine, was originally covered in silk attached to the wood with iron nails. The nails had copper button heads which were used also for the inscriptions. Conservation of the remains was extremely difficult and the work continues.
