Abstract
A method for determining the change of color of birds feathers is described. Budgerigar feathers (<i>Melopsittacus undulatus</i>) were exposed to light with and without ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The changes in reflection spectra and color (DELTA E CIE) were measured. A fast initial change of color followed by a much slower change was revealed. Radiation dose was assessed by blue wool fading standards. Standards 6 and 7 were shown to be unreliable when UV is excluded.
