Abstract
Description of cleaning methods used in the conservation/restoration of Merovingian bronze finds. Buckles of two different types are presented: cast bronze buckles with tinned and ornamented surfaces and cast, tinned, oval bronze belt buckles (special because of their iron cores). Mechanical cleaning was carried out for both types and the buckles were analysed by the atom absorption method. Data on analyses, dimension and weight of ten buckles tested in the Rathgen laboratory (Berlin) are presented.
