Abstract
The first part is an autobiographical exposition by a self-taught artist/restorer/forger, in which the techniques of art restoration are shown to be identical to those of art forgery. Numerous examples are cited. Precautions used by the artist to identify the work as a forgery are also given. The second part is an analysis of the market for art works, which posits that a great demand for works of art by renowned painters has allowed less scrupulous dealers and auction houses to supply works of art that are not fully authenticated and, in many cases, are known to be forgeries.
