Abstract
A temporary housing should be built around the temple at Bonampak large enough to carry out restoration and to effect drainage channels around the building. Leakage from the roof, walls, and ground should be eliminated. Treatment of the murals is dependent upon achieving their goal. Restraint should be exercised in removing calcareous deposit from the surface of the paintings. A layer of sufficient thickness should remain as an effective protection of the paint film. The purpose of the vinyl coating should be to protect the paintings and to make them clearly visible. It should not be high gloss and the coating should be removable with relative ease.
