A manuscript written between ca. 1750 and 1790 and kept at the library of the Musée de l'Impression sur Étoffes, in Mulhouse, France, is presented. It describes how to set up a dyeing workshop and how to proceed with the delicate operations involved in its operation. The two parts of the manuscript that receive special attention are the hot bath and the variants of the cold bath, to dissolve large quantities of indigo, mixed with other ingredients.
