Abstract
A 1783 survey maps the boundaries of the Nanticoke reservation; a 1980 aerial survey was carried out to search for a particular site, but also served as a test of the archaeological potential of this type of survey in the Middle Atlantic states, where this technique had not been previously used. The object of the search is human landscape modification such as crop marks or soil marks. Aerial photography is sensitive to seasonal changes. Factors to consider are the altitude at which the survey is carried out, the angle of the camera, the type of film, and the exposure. This particular survey was made with regular normal color and color infrared film at 1,000 feet. A probable site was identified as Feature A on the aerial survey.
