Abstract
The settlement of Mandalo is situated ca. 20 km northwest of ancient Pella. The five years of excavation there have produced a series of 19 radiocarbon determinations that permit one to define the lower and the upper limit of occupation on the site. According to this evidence, the start of the occupation must be placed at 4600 BC, which places the site within the confines of Rachmani period, in Thessalian terms. The end of the occupation is to be placed not earlier than 2500 BC, but there is a gap in the occupation that probably covered the 4th millennium BC. The settlement of Mandalo gives a valuable chronological and cultural link between the areas of Pelagonia and Thessaly and fills a gap that existed so far in western Macedonia.
