Abstract
The author, an advocate of sprinkler systems for fire suppression, reviews several large fires that broke out in museum buildings, which were supposedly protected against fires, although none of them were equipped with sprinkler systems. Describes the way that sprinkler systems work and the differences between various types of systems are discussed. The hazards of Halon are noted.
