Abstract
At least 10 sites in mid-Wales show a consistent pattern of association between copper mineralization, small opencast workings, and primitive stone tools; as Copa Hill appears little affected by later mining activity it was chosen for excavation. Material for carbon-14 dating obtained from sealed and undisturbed contexts gave results lying between 1685 and 810 cal. BC. More interdisciplinary research is needed.
