Abstract
Describes the examination of a fragment of an ancient marble relief. Specimens were examined with a polarizing microscope. The material was analyzed spectrographically and geochemically. This and some other geologic methods proved that the fragment in question belongs to the same piece of marble as the rest. Gives other examples for the use of such methods in archaeology.
