Abstract
Describes the restoration of a Cuban flag of 1852, which was received in very bad condition, sewn between plastic sheets. Deterioration was enhanced by the fact that the flag had been buried in the earth for several years. It had to be restored to be fit for exhibition. The flag was disassembled and traces of old restorations were removed. It was cleaned with ethyl-alcohol. The strengthening textile was colored and coated with poly-acryl-acid-esther. This method prevents further deterioration and protects against environmental damages. Flew-bility increased. The process is irreversible. The method was first applied 15 years ago; the objects treated in this way have undergone no changes to date. See also 16-194. -- AATA
