The variety of ethnological material in the collections of the Government Museum, Madras, is detailed from the conservation point of view, and the general approach to treatment is outlined. The details of the treatment of three different ethnological objects -- a shield of animal hide, an arrow with an iron arrowhead and a drum of ceramic material-are given as examples.
