The matiere of Park Soo-keun's paintings represent a very unusual technique; examples of which are rare to find in either Korean or Western painting. For that reason, many people have evidenced a natural interest in the way he created his works. However because so far discussions have been limited to the reports offered by family members and acquaintances as well as superficial observations, the results have been inadequate. While this research is based in part on material already available on his methodology and the testimony of family members, it also utilized observations obtained through the optical microscope and polarized light microscope of the layers of the sample of his painting. Of note is that through the help of the analytical research team at this institute, analytical instruments such as the SEM-EDS and XRD were used to obtain an analysis of the composition and structure of the paints of Park used as well as an analysis of his paint mix and technique.
