Abstract
The restoration of Oriental paintings is based upon hundreds of years of traditional mounting techniques. However recently even in the conservation of ancient calligraphy and paintings, much scientific techniques and many new methods are being utilized under the name of conservation science. This use of scientific instruments in the process of pre-repair analysis and analysis of materials for the selection of material has become inevitable, and have played a major rold in improving the effectiveness of restoration projects. In this paper the entire process from infill with silk to finishing was introduced. Its importance lies in the fact that in the restoration of the portrait of Song Shi-yol in comparison with Chinese and Japanese mounting techniques, Korea's unique mounting materials, their restoration, and use in the process of repair (including mounting fabric and its color, roller rod, roller knob, metal fittings and hanging ring nail and tassels decorating for the hanging scroll) was undertaken.
