Abstract
A panel painting with a limited provenance was brought to the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation: it had been bought in Zaragosa, Spain in the 1950s and was reported to have come from a convent and to have been restored before purchase. The technical examination of the painting characterizes it as a retable fragment of the early sixteenth century; its methods and materials of manufacture are consistent with the period. The treatment of the fragment will also be discussed.
