Abstract
The notion of integrity is often referred to in conservation, but it is seldom defined and remains vague in the mind of many conservators. Since many decisions are made in the course of a treatment to preserve as much of the integrity of the piece treated, it seems important to develop a better understanding of this fundamental notion. This paper presents an attempt to define it more clearly in the context of furniture conservation, and several examples are provided to illustrate the concepts discussed.
