Vincent van Gogh painted <i>Rain</i> on a late autumn day from his second floor workroom window of the mental institution at St. Rémy, France in 1889. The author used van Gogh's letters for information about his materials and techniques. Much information was found regarding van Gogh's St. Rémy palette as well as his views concerning the manufacture of oil paint. -- AATA
