Abstract
Studies of cyclorama paintings (huge free-hanging canvas paintings), seem to indicate that constant tension can prevent the deterioration of paint films, even if they are subjected to extreme changes of temperature and humidity. A new, spring-loaded stretcher, capable of providing relatively constant tension, is discussed; its use for mounting large murals described. Also described in detail is the conservation treatment of the largest painting in the USA, the Atlanta Cyclorama, being lined >in situ, in order to preserve the beneficial effect of its previous suspension system.
