Abstract
The recovery of paper from tensile deformation shows a combination of elastic, viscoelastic and plastic properties. These components of recovery have been separated and evaluated for programs in which initial strain, creep and stress relaxation are variable. The plastic deformation appears to have a time-independent component arising from the initial straining and a time-dependent component controlled by viscoelastic processes during subsequent creep or stress relaxation.
