Abstract
Mineral-stained hard maple was treated with various bleaching agents in attempts to blend the colors of the mineral stain and other darker-colored wood with the clear sapwood. A modified method of using acidified sodium chlorite produced the best results. Hypochlorites, sodium dichloroisocyanurate, and sodium hydrosulfite also produced effects which could be of interest to furniture manufacturers who require wood without harsh contrasts in color.
