Abstract
This journal article discusses aspects relating to ethics and techniques of conservation treatments of feathers found on ethnographic artifacts in anthropological museum collections. Biological infestations, physical damage, improper environment (excess moisture, heat), dust and dirt are the main sources of deterioration. Advantages and disadvantages of cleaning (mechanical, solvent, wet or dry), consolidation and repairing are discussed. Preventive conservation (preservation) may be achieved by means of proper handling, storage and display techniques. Researching and documenting the original manufacture of the object, and its condition at the time of collection, are important aspects of conservation. There are five references dating from 1966-1972.
