Abstract
The monumental de' Larderel palace in Livorno, Italy, is the fruit of several successive enlargements, the last in 1855, of an original small building built in 1832 by the architect Calocchieri. Among the improvements by Ferdinando Magagnini are the Grande Galleria (1846) to display the owner's art collections, and the decorations of the Gothic hall (1836). The article describes the barrel vaulted wooden roof structure of the gallery with lath and plaster ceiling and the troubadour-style gilded wood decorations of the Gothic hall. The construction method used for attaching the boiseries is also explained.
