Abstract
Chemical analyses of Greek coins show systematic changes in chemical composition. High percentage of Pb, coupled with moderate percenrage of Sn, as well as the presence of Au and Ag and a certain proportion of Ni, is characteristic of an tiquity, especially of ancient Greek bronze coinage. In analyzing coins for these constituents and ratios, it is possible not only to confirm their antiquity, but also the approx. date of their production. Two coins excavated recently from the Athenian Agora were analyzed. The results are compared with those of 11 samples of Athenian bronzes, previously analyzed. They are definitely ancient. -- AATA
