Abstract
Microchem. detection was made of the metals in the alloys of 8 Egyprian bronze figurines dating from the 6thcentury B.C. to the Graeco-Roman period. Microgram samples are taken by rubbing an edge of the object across a roughened glass plate; soln. is effected with a drop of aqua regia. The drop is placed on a filter paper and all the Bi, Cu, Pb, and Sn is fixed in a special enclosed app. with H2S. The paper is transferred to a ring oven, With suitable reagents the metals on the paper are sepd. into 4 concentric rings in groups of such nature that they can be detected in the presence of each other by common qual. reagents. Pb was detected in 7 objects, Bi in 7, Cu in 8, Sn in 5, Fe in 7, Zn in 5, but Cd, Ni and Co in none. -- AATA
