We possess contemporary evidence of the materials used in making Italian maiolica. The treatise <i>Li Tre Libri del Arte del Vasajo was written by Piccolpasso probably between 1556 and 1559. It is illustrated by the author, who describes the materials of the body,' glaze, and pigments of Italian maiolica as made in his time.
