Abstract
Exptl. results are reported for completely corroded bronzes, samples in an advanced state of corrosion, patina formation, leaching of Cu from patina, identification of dissolved metals, and decompn. of bronzes in the absence of chlorides. The end product of corrosion is a more or less pure stannic acid. Cu, Pb, Zn, and Ni are leached almost completely and fixed in the soil. Fe, Al, phosphate, and humus can migrate from the soil liquid to the residual stannic acid. CO2 and O2 content of ground water controls, in the main, the rate of corrosion. The bronze samples include historical finds. -- AATA
