Abstract
A brief article on a single, but important, aspect of Maori wood culture expressive of the characteristics and behaviour patterns pecular to this people. When they settle a new area (New Zealand) they adapt their habitations to the properties of the wood available in the area. The article outlines the various types of construction and their connection with the workability of the material.
