Abstract
Discusses complex interactions, one of which is thought to occur at the interfaces between the fibers, yarns and monofilaments which make up fabric. It is the interfacial friction at these contacts that restrains the interconnected fibrous elements of the assembly. When the assembly is deformed the mechanical response is governed by a combination of deformation of the fibers and the slip at their interfaces.
