Reviews the current position by reference to information obtained by studying model systems. These have yielded valuable mechanistic data that are directly relevant to cellulose photodegradation. A full account of the factors leading to dye fading on textiles is given focusing on the chemical changes and possible mechanisms that lead to the deterioration of cotton cellulose.
