Abstract
Discussed is a new processing hypothesis for stabilization in controlling hydrogen peroxide bleaching processes using sodium silicate as a stabilizing agent, and the effects of iron ions thereon. The heterolytic equilibrium of dissociation of hydrogen peroxide is regarded as the active principle used for controlling peroxide bleaching operations, whereas the stabilizing effect is primarily attributed to the homolytic disintegration of H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>. Consequences for practical operations are indicated. The role of sodium silicate as stabilizer is discussed, as is the influence of iron ions. -- AATA
