Abstract
After World War II formal training for conservators was provided. The first institution, the Highschool of Fine Arts (which has since achieved university status), provided training forwork on panel paintings. Since 1969 the curriculum has expanded to include murals, and stone and wood sculptures. A state examination of museology is given to students in the art restoration program. Since 1974 correspondence courses for general restorers have been offered under the auspices of the Department of Museums in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in cooperation with the Instituto of Conservation and Methodology of Museums.
