Noting that the study of microbiologic deterioration of works of art is recent, describes tests made on the pigments of the Last Supper at S. Maria delle Grazie, Milan. Those of 1969 showed no such contamination; whereas those of 1975-76 had, unfortunately, positive results. Through microscopic examination and laboratory analysis, it is clear that the fresco has been attacked by bacteria or microscopic fungi.
