Abstract
The two main factors which contribute to the deterioration of library materials (particularly paper) are physical factors related to materials conservation and management, and various chemical processes which lead to strength loss. The effect of acidity on the acceleration of deterioration in book materials is discussed, and deacidification methods are described.
