Samples of 70/30 and 60/40 brass were pretreated in solutions of benzotriazole (BTA) and various inhibitors. Their corrosion behavior was compared with that of a sample which did not receive pretreatment. Of the substances tested, 0.02M BTA with 0.01M C₆-C₈ xanthate (the potassium salt) gave the best inhibition under all the test conditions, 0.02M BTA with saturated 2,5-dimercaptothiadiazole gave similar results in near-neutral solutions, and BTA with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate or sodium diethyldithiophosphate was less effective. -- AATA
