Abstract
A brief account of two artifacts on which gold wire with a semi-circular cross-section has been used. One of the objects is a bronze sword of Mycenaean type (ca. 1200 B.C.) and the second is a necklace from Hungary (ca. 1400-1200 B. C.) which consists partly of spirally wound wire beads. The only way that semi-circular wire could be made is using a swage block, and this seems to be the earliest recorded use of a swage.
