The torc was found in two pieces, and analyzed prior to restoration. XRF was used to determine the composition (Au, Ag, Cu) and sections from the break were examined by scanning electron and optical microscopy. The application and effects of solder thus found are mentioned. Experiments using techniques thought to be available at the time of manufacture were carried out, and a manufacturing process is suggested. Subsequent restoration work is summarized. -- AATA
