Abstract
Expansion of art education/exhibitions at Exeter generated the need for a centralized facility, one that would not alter the campus' historic character or density. Rehabilitation of the interiors of two buildings provided studio and classroom space, and also involved uncovering and restoring an original, handsome coffered ceiling. A new gallery was designed to fit unobtrusively between the two buildings, affording a coherent connection and maintaining a popular pathway. By utilizing a modular bay arrangement and a special skylight shading system, gallery flexibility was achieved.
