The author points out that it is not difficult to establish a vacuum for lining large paintings; however, the heating often creates difficulties. A bottomless wooden box is used with a PVC-sheet inside to provide a watertight container with a flexible bottom. The box is filled with hot water, which is kept warm with an immersion heater.
