Abstract
A shipwreck from around 400 B. C. found near Porticello in southern Italy has been excavated to yield several items of lead, including two lead ingots. Isotopic analysis of these leads indicates that all but one originated from Laurion, in Greece. The remaining one carries a more indeterminate isotopic signature characteristic of both Italian and Levantine origins. The significance of these findings, especially as they apply to the history of lead in the Classical world, is discussed. -- AATA
